Posted in Uncategorized on 26 August 2008 by rswiremuWell done guys. I was so thrilled with the final ever concert we did, and I was especially glad that this happened at the Big Sing. I could not have asked more from you. It was important to show your peers the fine work that you have done, and for you to inspire them to participate: to show off! It was also important for conductors, teachers, supporters and whanau to be able to share the fruits of your good work. My mother and father had never seen me conduct before, and obviously they were very moved by the whole thing.
It was also crucially important that we had the chance to perform with our entire ensemble: I’m thrilled that we had three Thomas’s, three Ben’s, two Amelia’s and a partridge in a pear tree. (What name will be the most popular in new choir?)
I have been reliving the experience in my mind and on my laptop. If you would like to see the concert, then you should go to www.r2.co.nz/20080821 where you will find video links to all the choirs that were there. You’ll see just how effective the standing positions were (women did better than men), and the spooky effect of a glowing blue Thom A and Elijah.
Before you turn on your “inner critic” and begin to take this performance apart, I would like you to listen to other choirs from the Big Sing. I have always encouraged you not to analyse yourselves by the standards of others but to judge yourselves by your own higher standards. In this case, I did not realise just how good you really were until I had heard the competition choirs.
NZSSC: You rocked!!
